How to write your first blog post
Writing your first blog post can feel a little daunting; I should know, this is the first post for my site! After designing, coding and writing content (let’s not forget sitting on hold with my web hosting provider a bunch of times, fun!) you’d think writing your first post would be a breeze, right? Well if you’re anything like me that would be a resounding “N to the O”.
If you’ve been hit with a bout of Firstblogitis then here are some tips on how to get those words flying across the screen with a blog post that nails it first time out the gate:
- Get up close and personal with your target audience:
Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall, privy to the wants and needs of your target audience? Do your homework by finding out what other people in your industry are writing about and scour their comments section.
Struggling to come up with a topic for your first blog post? Brainstorming your way through the self-doubt or confusion is the quickest way to get your thoughts out of your head and down on paper – I find that brainstorming works best for me if I use the old school pen and paper method.
- Just do it:
Once you’ve got a firm idea of who you’re writing for, and what you’re writing about, it’s time to jump right in and get your feet wet! It doesn’t have to be perfect, that’s what second and third drafts are for. Just get something down, take a well deserved coffee break and come back to make edits with fresh eyes AND that monkey off your back because YOU DID IT!
Writing your first blog post takes, well, balls. So follow these steps, press publish and congratulate yourself on your very first blogging victory!
